In detail
About the Q8 Meta
Overview
The Q8 Meta is a compact two-way closed box speaker that KEF describes as a Dolby Atmos surround speaker. It can be wall mounted as a surround or rear speaker using its integrated wall mount, or placed on top of another speaker to reflect sound off the ceiling as a Dolby Atmos height channel, without in-ceiling installation.
It uses a 130 mm (5.25 in.) 12th generation Uni-Q driver array with Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), matching the rest of the Q Series.
Drivers and Technology
- 12th generation Uni-Q driver array, with the tweeter at the centre of the midrange/bass cone so both radiate from the same point
- Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT): a maze-like absorber behind the tweeter that KEF states absorbs 99% of the unwanted sound from the rear of the dome
- Crossover developed by KEF from more than 1,000 on- and off-axis measurements per model in its anechoic chamber in Maidstone, UK
- Tweeter rear chamber vent enlarged by 250% (per KEF) so more of the rear sound reaches the MAT absorber
- 25 mm (1 in.) vented aluminium dome tweeter with MAT and 130 mm (5.25 in.) aluminium cone
