In detail
About the Chassis DIY-X700
Overview
The R_volution Chassis DIY-X700 is a do-it-yourself upgrade kit for the Sony UBP-X700 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. You move the mainboard and optical drive from your own Sony UBP-X700 into a new full-width R_volution chassis with a built-in linear power supply, replacing the Sony's original power arrangement.
The kit does not include a Sony UBP-X700. You supply your own player.
Special order only. This kit is ordered in for you from the Australian distributor. Contact us for current lead times before you buy.
What the upgrade changes
- Linear power supply built around an 81 W oxygen-free copper toroidal transformer
- Toshiba linear voltage regulator, plus a low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator from Lintec
- Nichicon and Nippon Chemi-Con audio capacitors
- WIMA video-specific capacitors
- Optical drive mounted on an anti-vibration system
- Full-width metal chassis with rack-mount ears and a dedicated ground connector to address ground-loop interference in rack installations
- Larger IR remote than the Sony original, with additional buttons
- The remote uses the same IR codes as the original Sony player, so it can be used with control systems such as RTI, Control4, ProControl, Crestron, Savant, Philips Pronto, Elan, URC, Sofabato, Tuya, SwitchBot and Logitech Harmony
The Sony's mainboard and optical drive are reused as they are.
What's in the kit
- R_volution Chassis DIY-X700 with built-in linear power supply
- Rack-mounting ears (2) and 6 rack-mount screws
- IR remote control and batteries
- 1 m 4K HDMI cable
- Power cable (region-specific)
- Chassis opening tool
- Phillips screwdriver and Allen (hex) screwdriver
- Numbered bags of screws, a spacer and nut, a U-shaped DC plug and a thermal cube with thermal paste
What you need
- Your own Sony UBP-X700 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player (not included)
- A clear, flat work surface
If your Sony UBP-X700 has a Wi-Fi card (only some versions do), the guide shows you how to move it into the new chassis. R_volution recommends keeping the original Sony screws in case you want to reassemble the Sony player later.
Installation
R_volution says no technical skills are required. You open the Sony player, remove the mainboard and optical drive, fit them into the R_volution chassis and connect the supplied ribbons and cables. The tools you need are included in the kit.
- Every step is covered in R_volution's detailed user guide (PDF)
- R_volution says the job takes a few minutes
