Overview
The Yamaha NX-70A is a pair of powered wireless hi-fi speakers with MusicCast streaming built in. Each speaker has its own amplification, and the left and right speakers connect to each other wirelessly, with a 3 m network cable supplied if you prefer a wired left/right link.
The primary speaker handles the connections: HDMI eARC/ARC for a TV, optical and 3.5 mm analogue inputs, USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi, plus a subwoofer output. Yamaha builds in its Harmonious Diaphragm drivers, Synergistic Drive amplifier design and YPAO room calibration. The dedicated SPS-70A stands are available separately.
Drivers and Amplification
- 2-way bass reflex design with a 13 cm (5-1/4") woofer and 3 cm (1-1/4") dome tweeter in each speaker
- Harmonious Diaphragm in both drivers, made from a blend of ZYLON (PBO fibre) and spruce, the timber Yamaha uses in grand piano soundboards
- Synergistic Drive: a unified circuit design in which the speaker unit connects directly to the amplifier circuit so current flow can be managed
- Yamaha rates output at 100 W for the woofer and 60 W for the tweeter in each speaker (320 W total, 160 W x 2)
- ES9017S DAC operating in current mode, linear phase design and LLC power supply, as listed in Yamaha's user guide
- Rounded cabinet without parallel surfaces, with a 5 mm aluminium top plate screwed into the enclosure
Streaming and Room Calibration
- MusicCast multiroom: control everything from the MusicCast Controller app and send music or TV sound to other MusicCast devices in the home
- AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and Roon Ready, plus internet radio, podcasts and media server playback
- Bluetooth 5.3 (SBC, AAC)
- Plays MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 AAC, WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF and DSD files from the network or USB, with WAV, FLAC and AIFF up to 384 kHz and DSD up to 11.2 MHz
- YPAO room calibration with Reflected Sound Control (R.S.C.), parametric EQ and YPAO Volume, using the supplied 6 m microphone

- HDMI eARC/ARC with CEC, so the speakers power on with the TV and follow the TV remote's volume (2 ch PCM up to 192 kHz/24-bit)
