Matrix Audio X-SPDIF3 – High-Performance USB Digital Audio Interface
Reach a Higher Level of Digital Audio
The Matrix Audio X-SPDIF3 is a next-generation USB digital audio interface that allows your computer, tablet, or mobile phone to output high-quality digital signals to external DACs and other digital audio devices. Featuring USB asynchronous transmission and support for multiple output formats—Optical, Coaxial, AES, and IIS-LVDS—the X-SPDIF3 ensures seamless interface conversion with outstanding audio fidelity.
Compared to its predecessor, the X-SPDIF3 introduces isolated IIS-LVDS output, fully separating the digital signal from the USB ground. This effectively eliminates the noise issues common to USB connections, delivering a pure and interference-free audio stream. Supporting up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512 output, it guarantees audiophile-grade sound quality from both desktop and mobile devices.
Pure Signal, Noise-Free Playback
The X-SPDIF3 acts as a problem solver for digital audio signals, converting data from USB into S/PDIF or IIS-LVDS formats. This is especially valuable when using devices that lack coaxial or optical outputs. By optimising and reshaping the audio stream while isolating it from front-end impurities, the X-SPDIF3 ensures a clean, stable signal for DACs and other connected equipment. The result: improved sound quality and a more natural, detailed listening experience.
Precision Femtosecond Clocking
Equipped with dual femtosecond clocks from Accusilicon, the X-SPDIF3 delivers exceptional timing accuracy. One clock supports 44.1kHz-based sampling rates, while the other handles 48kHz-based multiples. An integrated FPGA automatically switches and divides frequencies, ensuring flawless synchronisation. Powered by an independent ultra-low-noise LDO, the clock system guarantees an uncoloured, highly accurate restoration of music.
Flexible IIS-LVDS Configuration
For maximum compatibility, the IIS-LVDS output can be set to four different interface definitions via a switch on the bottom of the unit. This flexibility allows the X-SPDIF3 to work with a wide variety of back-end DACs, making it a versatile solution for audiophiles with diverse system configurations.
Dual Clock Output Modes
Hi-Fi enthusiasts can select between two different clock output modes using dedicated switches on the underside of the unit. This makes it easy to tailor the X-SPDIF3’s operation to suit your connected devices—putting precise system tuning at your fingertips.
Effortless DSD Conversion
The X-SPDIF3 includes DoP-to-Native DSD conversion, enabling seamless playback on DACs that only support native DSD decoding. This ensures maximum flexibility when handling DSD audio files, giving users the freedom to enjoy their music library in the format best suited to their system.
External Power Supply Option
The device supports both USB bus power and external power supply. A built-in LED indicates which mode is active. When connected to power-limited devices such as smartphones or tablets, an external supply ensures stable operation. Once connected, the external source automatically overrides USB power, guaranteeing a cleaner, more reliable power feed.
Premium CNC Aluminium Chassis
In keeping with Matrix Audio’s design ethos, the X-SPDIF3 is housed in a precision CNC-machined aluminium chassis. This robust enclosure provides excellent electromagnetic shielding, reduces the impact of mechanical vibrations, and blocks interference from surrounding devices. The result is a visually elegant yet acoustically pure solution, perfect for building a high-performance PC Hi-Fi system.
