The Matrix Audio SS-1 Pro and SS-1 are audio-grade network switches purpose-built for Hi-Fi streaming audio. Unlike conventional network switches, these models are designed from the ground up to meet the unique requirements of high-resolution audio systems. With enhancements to the power supply, clock system, cooling design, and component selection, the SS-1 series ensures lossless transmission of high-definition streaming audio for the most discerning audiophiles.

Higher Speed, Greater Stability

Engineered with digital circuit design principles, the SS-1 Pro / SS-1 delivers high-speed signal transmission that translates into superior timing accuracy and system stability. Devices capable of higher-speed transmission achieve lower timing errors, which means even when operating at lower speeds, the SS-1 series maintains better performance than standard low-speed switches. This ensures consistent and accurate delivery of music streams, free from jitter or data errors.

Dual 10Gbps Isolated Ports

The SS-1 Pro / SS-1 features dual SFP/SFP+ ports supporting up to 10Gbps, enabling users to install optical fibre or RJ45 modules as needed. By connecting upstream network devices and audio equipment through fibre optic cables, the switch achieves complete electrical isolation. This prevents high-frequency noise and interference from network devices leaking into Hi-Fi equipment, preserving the purity of your audio signal.

Independent Ethernet Sockets with Shielding

Equipped with multiple Ethernet ports up to 2.5Gbps and two dedicated 100Mbps low-speed ports, the SS-1 series allows you to optimise data transfer speeds. Connecting audio devices to the 100Mbps ports minimises potential bit errors during transmission. Each port is built with 10Gbps-grade independent Ethernet transformers and fully shielded sockets, with individual metal enclosures for each signal transformer. The result: enhanced resistance to RF interference and greater signal integrity.

Precision Clock System with External Input (SS-1 Pro)

A stable clock system is vital for digital circuits, and Matrix Audio has taken this to the next level:

• SS-1 Pro: Features a femtosecond clock paired with a high-precision ultra-low phase noise RF synthesiser. It supports internal and external clock modes for maximum flexibility. In internal mode, the femtosecond clock feeds the synthesiser for ultra-stable operation. In external mode, a 10MHz reference clock input provides synchronisation with external clock systems.

• SS-1: Though simplified, it still includes an ultra-low phase noise femtosecond clock to deliver exceptional performance in any Hi-Fi system.

Customisable LED Indicators

For uninterrupted listening, the Ethernet port LED indicators can be disabled with a rear-panel button, ensuring a distraction-free environment in dark or dedicated listening rooms.

Linear Power Supply & Silent Cooling

The SS-1 Pro is equipped with a custom O-core toroidal transformer, high-speed Schottky diodes, and nearly 10,000μF of audio-grade filtering capacitors. Together with six ultra-low-noise LDO linear power supplies, this ensures clean, stable power delivery to the main controller and clock systems.

A large passive heatsink cools the main control chip without fans, ensuring silent operation—perfect for quiet listening environments.

Upgradeable Power Options (SS-1)

The SS-1 includes a DC input port for connecting an external linear power supply. When used, the internal AC input is bypassed, allowing the external PSU to deliver direct, ultra-clean power to the femtosecond clock and main controller. This option lets audiophiles unlock the switch’s full performance potential.

CNC Aluminium Chassis with Flexible Design

The SS-1 Pro and SS-1 are encased in a precision-machined aluminium CNC chassis reinforced with a steel base for strength and stability. The units come with four isolation feet by default, but can be easily reconfigured to three-point support depending on your acoustic tuning and placement preferences. The robust design not only improves durability but also reflects Matrix Audio’s new design language.
