EPOS ES-7N: The Compact Two-Way Reflex Bookshelf Speaker
Many customers have long asked for a smaller EPOS speaker — a true bookshelf model that fits perfectly into real homes, even popular IKEA shelves and cabinets. The answer is the EPOS ES-7N, a two-way reflex-loaded bookshelf loudspeaker that brings legendary EPOS design to a more compact form, with zero compromises on pure sound quality.
Designed for Real Rooms and Real Bookshelves
Designing a smaller high-end speaker is never easy. A small front baffle can dramatically affect the speaker’s frequency response, and placement — whether free-standing, near a wall, or inside an actual bookshelf — changes the bass and midrange balance.
The ES-7N solves this challenge with a clever rear panel switch that lets you adjust the crossover for two different placements:
-
Position Up: Best when the speaker sits 30–50cm from a wall — perfect for open stands in free space.
-
Position Down: Optimized for close-wall placement or inside a bookshelf — no more boomy bass or muddy mids.
Now you can enjoy great sound in any setup, without sacrificing tonal balance.
Advanced Cabinet Construction
The ES-7N cabinet is built from 2x8mm MDF panels with a high-loss damping layer sandwiched between them to control unwanted resonances. An extra internal wooden block on top improves stereo imaging, while a single internal brace keeps the cabinet quiet and rigid.
The speaker comes with silicon rubber spikes to isolate vibrations — four inserts on the bottom accept standard 4mm screws for secure footing.
Smart Port Design for Tight, Controlled Bass
The bass reflex port sits on the side — normally a challenge due to standing waves. EPOS engineers designed a bent port that exits in the middle between the side panels. Selectively damped ventilation holes along the port effectively control midband output and reduce unwanted resonances, delivering tight, clean bass.
Thoughtful Stereo Imaging and Layout
Each ES-7N pair is asymmetric for true stereo imaging: always place the tweeters toward the inside of your listening area for best performance and imaging accuracy.
Premium Crossover and Tuned by Ear
Like every EPOS design, the ES-7N crossover uses only carefully chosen parts — a mix of polypropylene, polyester, and low-loss electrolytic capacitors, air-core inductors wherever possible, and non-inductive custom resistors. Final tuning is always done by ear for a truly musical sound.
Flat, Controlled Response — No Boomy Bass
The ES-7N’s frequency response is tailored for either semi-free space or close-wall use. Its bass roll-off is carefully engineered to work with room gain, ensuring deep bass without unwanted boom.
Sensitivity is about 86dB in the “free space” switch position and 89dB in the “near wall” mode — making it flexible for a wide range of amplifiers. The constant 4 Ohm impedance and low phase shift ensure the ES-7N is an easy load, even for tube amps or modest integrated amps.
Custom Woofer and Proven Tweeter
The woofer is a new EPOS design, using Mica-filled polypropylene — like the ES-14N — molded with precision for maximum consistency. A low-hysteresis rubber surround and high-temperature Nomex spider keep the suspension linear, even at higher volumes.
Inside, a 30mm voice coil on a glass fibre/epoxy former works with a precision magnet system that includes an impedance control ring to minimize distortion and intermodulation. A double magnet reduces stray fields and boosts coil force. The crossover sits close to the woofer to minimize interaction, while the magnet’s stray field compensation avoids interference with the filter coils.
For the tweeter, the ES-7N uses the exact same driver as the flagship ES-14N — a 28mm aluminum alloy dome with ceramic coating for stiffness and clarity. Its powerful Ferrite magnet and optimized airflow design ensure superb high-frequency detail with no Ferrofluid for maximum openness and minimal compression.
Perfect on a Stand
The ES-7N pairs beautifully with a 70cm stand, lifting it to ideal listening height and ensuring the tweeter is ear-level when seated. However, thanks to its flexible tuning and small footprint, it works equally well on a shelf or built-in cabinet.
The EPOS ES-7N: Small Speaker, Big Heart
The EPOS ES-7N brings the same legendary EPOS values — pure design, honest engineering, musical sound — to a truly compact bookshelf format. It’s perfect for modern living rooms, small listening spaces, or setups where classic EPOS quality must fit in tight spaces.
