Powerful new ‘X1 for projector’ processing at its heart
Combined with the exceptional laser light engine is a powerful new X1 for projector processor. Derived from their award-winning TVs, the X1 for projector processor enables Dynamic HDR and Sony’s Reality Creation Technology, giving amazing scene-by-scene picture realism. The capable processor also handles upscaling to UHD 4K – making the most of all your non-4K content, such as standard Blu-ray discs.
Dual Contrast Control for infinite dynamic contrast, delivering stunning black levels
Both laser and iris feature independent control. This optimises the light output for dark scenes and those with high contrast. The result is a dynamic contrast of infinity:1 - bringing every scene to life with exquisite detail and realism.
Dynamic HDR Enhancer for spectacular realism
HDR already delivers improved brightness and detail within darker areas of the picture. Dynamic HDR Enhancer takes HDR10 and HLG support and maximises its full potential. Creating a more detailed (dynamic) analysis of each scene boosts the HDR performance, making bright scenes brighter and enhancing the depth and detail within darker scenes.
Native UHD 4K resolution for the ultimate detail
For the highest standards of detail and realism, the Sony VPL-VW790ES use native UHD 4K resolution. Projecting in this resolution gives detail and realism that's impossible to achieve with conventional Full HD resolution. UHD 4K resolution is four times greater than the more conventional 1920 x 1080 Full HD projectors and it's a difference you can easily see on a large projection screen.
SXRD panels for vivid picture quality
Sony uses advanced SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) panels with an incredibly rapid response rate of just 2.5 milliseconds. This gives the VPLVW790ES smooth, fluid motion that's faster and more stable than typical LCD TVs. Another advantage over TVs is the increased panel resolution of 4096 x 2160. This ensures that movies filmed in panoramic formats, such as CinemaScope and American Vista, have much less of the picture taken up by black bars.
Digital Focus Optimiser for the crispest image
For the very best in image precision, digital focus helps improve even the sharpest optics. By analysing every pixel, Digital Focus Optimiser performs optimum image quality correction, across the full picture. This gives a linear improvement in focus, greatly improving the focus in the corners of the image.
Super Resolution Reality Creation
Watching a 4K signal from a source such as UHD Blu-ray, Netflix or Amazon Prime is awesome but the VPL-VW790ES still excels with other resolutions, too. Exclusive Reality Creation technology analyses images right down to the pixel level. It uses powerful pattern-matching algorithms developed over years of movie production to enhance image crispness without increasing digital picture noise. It also upscales existing full HD Blu-ray Disc and DVD movies to near 4K quality.
4K Motionflow makes it smooth
Whatever you're watching, you'll enjoy a liquid smoothness during fast-moving action scenes with Motionflow. This innovative technology creates and inserts extra frames between the original frames, first comparing key visual factors on successive frames, then calculating each split-second of missing action.
Picture Position Memory stores your settings
Store lens, zoom, and shift settings for up to five screen formats for easy recall. Picture Position Memory remembers key settings so you can quickly watch movies in the ideal format. Match aspect ratios, including 16:9 and Cinemascope, and store these settings in the projector.
